CRISSAY sur MANSE, un écrin de tuffeau
Au cœur de la Touraine, dans la vallée de la Manse, à proximité de Chinon et Azay-le-Rideau, ce village médiéval a su garder tout son caractère. Inscrites au Patrimoine national des monuments historiques depuis 1926, son église de style gothique flamboyant, ses belles demeures de tuffeau et ses ruelles étroites justifient son classement parmi « Les plus beaux villages de France ».
Haut lieu de la guerre de Cent Ans, CRISSAY s’est développée aux XVe et XVIe siècles et garde de cette époque des demeures remarquables et des rues anciennes dans lesquelles vous pourrez flâner dans le calme et la quiétude tourangelle.
Les visites sur le domaine public y sont libres et gratuites.
Son château, durement éprouvé pendant la guerre de cent ans, fut la propriété des TURPIN de CRISSÉ pendant 6 siècles, jusqu’au 1er juillet 1632. Partiellement reconstruit au XVe siècle, il se dresse fièrement, dominant la vallée. Il témoigne de la grandeur passée du village. C’est un domaine privé à l’accès réglementé. Des représentations théâtrales y ont lieu fin juillet et deuxième quinzaine d’aout.
De nombreuses manifestations se déroulent au village chaque été. C’est l’occasion d’associer culture et flânerie ; de sortir des sentiers battus pour s’imprégner de ce patrimoine, de ces façades de tuffeau qui cachent bien des mystères.

In the heart of Touraine, in the Manse valley, a few kilometers from Chinon et Azay-le-Rideau, this medieval village has kept all its character. Listed in the National Heritage of historical monuments since 1926, its flamboyant Gothic church, its beautiful houses of tuffeau stone and narrow streets justify its classification among “The most beautiful villages in France”.
An important place during the Hundred Years War, CRISSAY grew in size in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and has retained the wonderful homes and old streets from this period, through which you can stroll in the quiet and tranquility of Touraine.
The public areas are available to visit and are free.
Its castle, which suffered greatly during the Hundred Years War, was owned by the TURPIN of CRISSÉ family for 6 centuries, until July 1, 1632. Partially rebuilt in the 15th century, it stands proudly, dominating the valley. It bears witness to the past greatness of the village. It is a private domain with restricted access.
Theatrical performances take place at the end of July and the second half of August. Many events take place in the village every summer. This is an opportunity to combine culture and wandering; to leave the beaten path to immerse yourself in this heritage, these facades of tuffeau stone that hide many mysteries.
